Truth:
Lovely Goodbye’s self-titled album is available for purchase through iTunes. The album features 11 original pop/rock tracks from the band.
Sarah:
I grew up in the suburbs. Like deep in the suburbs. Where the only music culture we have are American Idol and the lame Top 40 station that plays only on the weekends. But that exposed me to artists/bands like Nickelback, Daughtry, Kid Rock and 3 Doors Down. Which now I’m thankful for after listening to Lovely Goodbye’s album. Actually, if you put Nickelback, Kid Rock, and Daughtry in a blender, you’d get Lovely Goodbye. They have this old but new rock sound with a hint of their Tennessee roots.
The first track on the album is “Starting Now,” which at first listen sounds like Chad Kroeger on vocals. It’s a great way to start the album; not because it’s called “Starting Now,” but because it’s got all the elements of rock music that the band incorporates into their sound. It’s not too fast, not too slow; it’s just enough for you to get what they’re all about. Plus it’s got a cool message:
I want to run
I want to say goodbye
I want to love
I want to live my life
Starting now
“Starting Now” leads into “Crazy,” which picks up in tempo. It’s kind of pop-rock-country, like Trace Adkins; it’s funny, upbeat, and surrounds you with a southern hard-rock sound. I especially love the twang in the line:
I’m not crazy
But I’m real close
Next is the Weezer-sounding track, “Sellout.” “Sellout” is kind of like the band’s theme song. No band likes the stigma of being a “sellout” but if it means getting money and fans, any band would gladly do it (or at least secretly want to). Every band should listen to this, because “selling out” isn’t necessarily bad because you “get paid” you “get fame, there’s no shame” and you get to do what you love–for money. Of course, the band isn’t actually signed to anyone, but if and when they “sell out,” it’ll totally be worth it because people will fall in love with their talent and fun lyrics. Plus, what they say about “screamo” and “emo” music cracked me up; Weezer would be jealous.
“I Just Wonder” slows down a bit and is more acoustic in the beginning, but picks up to their normal uptempo sound. That said, it’s a pretty song from the band.
I fell into your eyes
And I was taken
And left the world behind
And I’m embracing
Every time you look at me
Baby, I forget to breathe
I just wonder how you do it
Every day is getting better
I can’t get myself together
I just wonder how you do it
It’s a cool rock love song, and if you download any song off this album, if should be this one.
Another great song on “Lovely Goodbye” is “I Don’t Mind.” The rock star guitar riffs, combined with the insane drumming, mixed with the cool lyrics make this song worthy of listening.
One of the last songs is “Disbelief,” which is on the same production-level and sound level as Daughtry, that leads into the last song, “One More Drink,” an acoustic song that ends the album perfectly.
I surprised myself by enjoying this album. I typically reserve the whole Nickelback/Daughtry thing for my mom, while I go for “younger” bands like Allstar Weekend and the Jonas Brothers. But Lovely Goodbye proves in this album that you really can’t compare them to anybody because they’re in a league all on their own. While their sound has similarities to other bigger artists (which is a compliment0, the band has a creativity that blows those artists out of the way. This band has potential to make it big in whatever genre they choose, because not only are they versatile, but they’re likeable.
