Truth:
Former frontman of the now-defunct Count Me In Nate Smith has gone solo and released his deluxe single, “Be Alright.” The single comes with the previously released “Here Right Now,” and a new track, “Wings.” You can buy the deluxe single on iTunes.
Sarah:
Nate Smith has successfully switched from being a pop-punk band lead vocalist to being focused solely on showing off his versatile vocals with acoustic accompaniment and well-spoken lyrics. “Here Right Now” would appeal to those who are into Jason Mraz’s chill, beachy sound.
The title track is more upbeat, and has a piano featured. It’s more theatrical and Smith’s vocals have major bravado–one would say, swag. Smith doesn’t skimp on the lyrics with this larger-than-life sound. The lyrics are about moving on and ‘being alright’ after a relationship, but his fun vocals and poppy instrumentals have a comical cynicism that makes Smith that much more of a gangsta.
Finally is “Wings,” a much slower song, with Smith taking advantage of his intentionally raspy vocals. The story-telling song talks about someone (Nate?) trying to make it in the music industry–”chasing a dream.” It’s a beautiful rendition of the hardships of going after your dreams (particularly about the ‘bills stacking up’) and Smith tells it well.
